My Story

My role as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist is to provide support to others with
mental illness, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders, and help them achieve their
personal recovery goals by promoting self-determination, personal responsibility, and the
empowerment inherent in self-directed recovery. I also draw upon my own personal growth
experience to carry the message of recovery and hope to individuals who are currently enrolled
in treatment services as well as those who are not in treatment services. Sometimes a friendly
face and a familiar story can make a difference in a person's interest in healing. By offering
outreach, encouragement, and support, I try to cultivate and secure a connection with the client,
while teaching personal responsibility and serving as a mentor and role model.

I've previously worked as a laborer and a cook. In total, I spent around 30 years working
in various kitchens and warehouses. Those career paths left me feeling empty and unsatisfied.
I found my true passion when I began focusing on working on myself and putting myself in a
position to help others. I can't tell you how much I enjoy being of service. My ultimate goal in
life is to be the change I want to see in the world. That translates to being compassionate,
understanding, and available when needed.

I currently hold certifications as a Certified Peer Support Specialist, Through RI
International, awarded in 2019, and as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, Through the
Minnesota Certification Board, awarded in 2022. I am enrolled in Minnesota North College for
the 2023 fall Semester to receive an Associate’s Degree in Addiction Studies, and after that I
intend to get a Bachelor’s Degree In Social Work.
